Choosing a moving date (and saving money)

Why mid-month, mid-week and off-season moves often cost less.

4 min read

Demand for movers peaks in summer, on weekends and at the start and end of each month, when leases turn over. If you have any flexibility, moving outside those peaks often means lower prices and more availability.

Often cheaper

  • September through April, outside the school-summer rush
  • Tuesday through Thursday
  • The middle of the month

Also think about

  • Overlapping your old and new place by a few days if possible
  • Weather: winter roads and summer heat both slow moves down
  • School calendars, if you have children
